Airhub Flight School ABCs

It is not an easy task to start, and especially to finish, studying at a flight school. The process takes up to 2 years and a lot of preparation is required before a candidate can fly a plane commercially.

The first step involves answering an important question: Why did I decide to become a pilot? This is an essential step, because at Airhub Flight School, you will be able to choose between three different training programmes: Cadet, ATPL Integrated and PPL training.

To apply to any programme, you will have to provide:

• A copy of your passport
• CV
• Educational diplomas (high school, university, primary education, etc.)
• Medical certificate (a valid EASA 1st or 2nd class medical certificate). Read more: What should you know about the medical examination?
• Information about your aviation experience (if any)

No matter which programme you choose, you will first have to match the minimum requirements and pass the selection process. Read more: Minimum entry requirements

Once you’ve been accepted for the training, you just need to pick an available starting date, confirm the reservation fee and prepare to move to Vilnius where you will start studying to become a pilot.

Keep in mind that the school will provide you with all the necessary learning materials and equipment (books and eBooks, CBT, iPad, uniform, flight bag and others), as well as accommodation and transportation, if needed.

Cadet programme and ATPL Integrated

Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL Theory + MEP/IR/CPL) Integrated is a comprehensive training programme, which will help you to acquire the professional skills needed to become a commercial pilot in the shortest time possible. The programme will enable you to operate as a co-pilot in a multi-pilot environment, on multi-engine airplanes and to obtain the frozen ATPL licence.

If you prove to be an exceptional prospect and a promising candidate, you will have the opportunity to sign a letter of engagement with GetJet Airlines and to join the Cadet programme. This is the fastest way to become a First Officer in commercial airlines and will guarantee you a job after the training is complete.

The study programme is divided into two main parts: Ground School (theory) and Practical Training (flights).

The Ground School will take place at the Airhub facilities in Vilnius, Lithuania; whereas you will practice your flight training in the Kaunas S. Darius and S. Girėnas aerodrome.

Theoretical part of the training

The theoretical part consists of 14 different subjects. There is 750 hours of training in total, which is delivered over a period of 9 months, as well as 25 hours of Multi-Crew Cooperation. The subjects are:

• Aircraft General Knowledge (120 hours)
• Principles of Flight (60 hours)
• Air Law (40 hours)
• Communications VFR/IFR (40 hours)
• Instrumentation (60 hours)
• General Navigation (60 hours)
• Radio Navigation (70 hours)
• Mass and Balance (30 hours)
• Performance (50 hours)
• Flight Planning (50 hours)
• Meteorology (75 hours)
• Operational Procedures (25 hours)
• Human Performance and Limitations (45 hours)
• KSA Area 100 (25 hours)

Theory is as important as practice, so in order to finally sit in the pilot’s chair, you will have to pass the first 4 exams at the Ground School. This means that you will start learning to control the plane after ~3 months of theoretical studies.

Practical part of the training

First, you will carry out Diamond DA40 Single Engine Piston flight training and will work towards your first solo flight, followed by a solo navigation flight and finally the flight check.

After this, you will begin flying under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) – starting off in a simulator and transitioning back into a single-engine aircraft.

In the next phase, you will move onto a multi-engine aircraft and after completing the Instrument Rating in this type of an aircraft, you will have to log different types of hours to finish your ATPL Integrated studies, in order to receive the frozen ATPL.

Successfully completing all of these stages means that you will be granted a Commercial Pilot Licence with a Multi-Engine Instrument Rating, also known as “CPL / MEIR”. This licence will allow you to fly passengers in twin or single-engine aircraft.

Meanwhile, in order to transition into a multi-crew environment, the pilot will have to take a Multi-Crew Cooperation Course (MCC). The aim of this training is to familiarise you with interpersonal behaviour and teach you how to make the best use of crew cooperation techniques.

Aircraft Private Pilot Licence

Completing the PPL(A) training at Airhub Flight School will permit you to control a single-engine airplane. Compared to the Cadet and ATPL Integrated programmes, the PPL(A) studies are shorter and require less theoretical preparation, since you will be flying for your own pleasure.

The course will last 9 months, during time which you will have to complete 140 hours of PPL(A) Theory over up to 3 months, consisting of 9 different subjects:

• Aircraft General Knowledge
• Principles of Flight
• Air Law
• Communication
• Meteorology
• Flight Planning
• Navigation
• Operational Procedures
• Human Performance

After the examination period, which will also take around 3 months to complete, you will have 47 VFR flight hours on a Diamond DA40 Aircraft.

Upon finishing all of these stages successfully, you will be rewarded with a Private Pilot Licence and give the green light to enjoy private flights with your friends or family.
